The New Forest Riding Club has been in existence since the 1980's. Previously known as The Forest Ride Group the name change became necessary when we became affiliated to the British Horse Society. The BHS acts as the governing body to the Riding Clubs in the UK and affiliation provides us with insurance liability cover for our events and the opportunity to take part in national competitions.

The New Forest Riding Club has around one hundred and fifty Members, most of whom own and ride their own horses. We do have a faithful contingent of non-horse owners who ride other members' horses, as well as a number of non-riding members who help to organise events.

The New Forest part of our name reflects our location. There is no obligation for anyone to own or ride a New Forest Pony - indeed we welcome steeds of every size, shape, colour or denomination.

We have Members from a radius of thirty miles who regularly attend events with us. The aim of the Club is to provide a central "hub" through which Members can meet other riders and participate in events and training including show jumping, dressage and cross country.

Currently the Club is run by a committee of volunteers. A monthly newsletter is circulated to all Members. This contains details of forthcoming events being staged by ourselves and other organisations, results, members advertisements and any "literary contributions" from members. Advertising is free to members.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly club and any new members are made to feel welcome at events.

So, if you have a horse, or ride one regularly, come and join us; have some fun and also be offered the chance to participate and represent the Club at BHS Area competitions. These competitions are open to teams and individuals and take place in many disciplines such as show-jumping, dressage, eventing & hunter trials. In order to run events we always need help from members; this is also a way of meeting and making friends with other Members and Members of the Committee.

A selection of events is organised each year, together with some instruction for Members. Events held to date include:-
  • ANNUAL SHOW
  • Lecture Demonstrations
  • Dressage Competitions
  • Clear Round/ Practice Jumping
  • Dressage and Jumping Combined Competitions
  • Competitive Long Distance Ride
  • Coach Trips
  • Pleasure Rides
  • Dressage Instruction
  • Jumping Instruction
  • Grade Training
If you are interested in joining us, please pop along to one of our events or e-mail us. We look forward to meeting you and your horse.
