Events and photos will be shown here after the events. We will try to leave the event reports and photos on until after the AGM each year.

LONG DISTANCE RIDE

Saturday 22 May 2010 at Vereley, Burley

No need to have worried about the weather, it had been a hot and sunny week and Saturday was no exception, it was the hottest day this year!

When I arrived at the Car Park at 9.00 a.m., Sue was already there allowing Jade to relax before vetting.  Everyone else arrived on cue as requested, so our volunteer stewards went off to their Check Points and Marion our “Vet” was able to start on time at 10.00.  The first riders left shortly after and everyone was on their way by 12.00.

We had 11 Competitive Riders and 18 Pleasure Riders.  This was a great turnout considering the week before there were only three!

Steph, Val and Hayley came from Great Cheverell in Wiltshire and Rebecca and her son, Declan (aged 10) came from Binfield in Berkshire.  All down to the power of the Internet!

The first Check Point was at Old House at the end of Sir Dudley’s Ride and, unfortunately, most riders had a bit of a job finding it.

Eventually they were on track again and off through the enclosures, by the Deer Sanctuary and out to the Canadian Memorial, which was Check Point Two.

Proceeding then towards the main road and through the underpass, after which the Pleasure Riders swung back and followed the road to the next underpass and back to Vereley.

The Competitive Riders continued to Milkham car park, Check Point Three, through the enclosure to Lindford car park, Check Point Four,  round Lindford Enclosure, up over the Forest and through the second underpass Check Point Five, returning to Vereley.

I won’t say it was ridden without a hitch (thank goodness for mobile phones) but everyone returned having enjoyed the scenery, bluebells and wildlife.  Lots of water was required to refresh both horses and riders but all passed vetting without exception.

Our Visitors really enjoyed their ride in the New Forest and I hope they will return again.

As always a big “THANK YOU” to our band of willing helpers, Nick, Joyce, Terry, Brenda and Robbie, and the companions who kept them company, and Cheryl for timing and Marion for Vetting.

COME FOR A HACK

Janesmoor Pond Hack - Sunday 28 March 2010

I decided to go on the ride at Janesmoor Pond. Not the normal thing I would participate in but I thought it would be a good exercise to go on with my horse, Pablo, as he has never been ridden out with a group of more than two horses before.

The weather forecast for Sunday was wet and windy but we arrived at Janesmoor, and although it was
not glorious sunshine, it was dry and relatively warm.

Everyone mounted and off we went. All seven horses present behaved themselves perfectly and the pace was steady so as to encourage an atmosphere suited to relaxing, socialising and enjoying the scenery.

The route was lovely and relatively dry considering how wet the forest is at the moment. The group was very welcoming and friendly and everyone had an enjoyable time. These rides are great for getting to know different areas of the forest and the pace is steady, so it is an ideal opportunity for introducing your horses to group riding whilst catching up on all the latest gossip! Thanks to all involved in organising the day.

EVENING TALK

At Exbury Club - Tuesday 23 March 2010

Well what a night.  The weather was terrible and I was panicking thinking no one would turn up, but as it was we had a very good turn out.

The evening started with Richard Simpson, who is a trainer for Hampshire County Council, talking about trailers and the laws.  The information he gave us was of great help and hopefully we all learnt a great deal.  This was followed by Alison Tilbury, our local PC.  She is a very knowledgeable lady and again informed us on security.  She explained that if purchasing an Ifor Williams to inform Ifor Williams of the purchase, and all information is then put on their database.  She is also involved with Horsewatch and told us of a case she is now investigating where a mare was found in a terrible state at Marchwood.  They are hoping to find the owners and prosecute.

We then finished the evening with Jenny Tillyer talking about the Stallions on the Forest.  She started with the history of the New Forest Ponies, finishing with why the Ponies look so good today.  This was a very interesting talk and I think we all learnt something new.

Fun Show 13th March 2010 Fortune Centre, Avon Tyrell

Well what can I say, what a lovely afternoon!! Nice weather, gorgeous horses and ponies and lots of happy people.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the venue, and the Fortune centre staff and students couldn't have done more to make us all welcome.

This show is always a good way to introduce young stock to the show ring, and to give some confidence to the older horses and ponies, as it has a very relaxed atmosphere, and it certainly seemed to work with the entries this year. All the entries were really well behaved, even the ones who had not been out before, so lots of rosettes handed out.

Thanks again to everyone who helped make it a great afternoon.

I have attached the results below and also photos of the winners of each class (courtesy of Robbie Smith)

Quiz Night – Tuesday 26 January 2010 at Seashells Lounge Bar & Restaurant

We hope that everyone that attended this popular event had a great evening.  Once again, Martin Foot had set us some very interesting questions which caused head scratching and lots of discussion within the teams. The music round was particularly challenging as we had to figure out something in the garden relating to clips of music played.  Well done all of you and our thanks to Martin and Joyce Foot for the excellent Quiz once again, and to the helpful staff at the Seashells.
